- How long does it take to build a cabin? - The small camp cabins take about 3 weeks while the deluxe 14' x 26' model fully finished with the hardwood flooring takes approximately 7 weeks.
-
- How long do I have to wait for my cabin? - That, of course, depends on how many orders are ahead of you. Some people are happy to wait, some clients are still looking for land and at times we have one cabin ahead in inventory. To date, just the two of us build each cabin. Other than the plumbing, wiring, and lacquering we do all the work ourselves. We will, if it becomes necessary, hire a third person to assure delivery to meet the customer's timeframe.
- What is the largest cabin we can order? - The cabin size itself would be 14' x 26' with a
continuous 30' Ridgepole. We could extend the ridge another 2' to cover a porch extension. We cannot exceed 16' wide eave to eave and haul cabins down the highway. The maximum length log we can get turned for a ridgepole is 32'.
- Can we put two cabins together? What if we want a separate bedroom? - The best way we've come up with to increase living area is to put the cabin onto a full basement. So far we have several cabins on full, daylight basements. Each has a bedroom, bath and laundry room. Check with a local contractor for your cost. For more information and photos, please see our What's New and Exciting page.
- Do you just have one floor plan? - We have one that is the most popular as shown in Plan A. Another option is moving the door to the gable end of the cabin as shown in Plan B. Both designs have identical bath, kitchen set-ups with the loft. Plan C has an efficiency kitchen without a stove. Plan D is made to sit on a basement. Floor plans are limited in such a small space but we are happy to use yours if you have one. See Sample Floor Plans.
- Does the porch come with it? - Cabins up to 24' in
length can be built with a 6' porch extension on the gabled end at an extra charge of $14.00/sq. ft. On a 14' x 26' cabin with the door on the 26' side, as seen in photo, we leave off the overhang on the side of the cabin where the porch will be attached. We leave 1" metal strapping attached to the end of each roof rafter. We nail a ledger board on the wall for the porch rafters. When your cabin is delivered to you, you may hire a local contractor to build your porch or you can do it yourself. The cabin roof has a 6/12 pitch and we generally suggest the porch roof have a 4/12 pitch.
May window sizes and locations be changed? - Absolutely. Since most of our cabins are built to order we are happy to make any changes to suit your needs as long as the structural integrity of the cabin is not compromised. Added window expense will be computed accordingly.
Can you stand up in the loft? - No. It's a crawl around space, plenty of room to sit up or throw out a mattress for sleeping.
- Do you always use the hardwood flooring? - Yes, unless the buyer requests carpeting, tile or unfinished.
We can have carpet installed for you at cost (we will figure the cost difference at time of purchase) or ship the cabin to you with an unfinished plywood floor and you can do it yourself.
- Do you sell "kits"? - No. Our business is building custom cabins. Check with your local building supply and they would be happy to put together a building package for you.
